CNR has 396 researchers in the 2024 top 2% world's ranking of scientists based on the c-score16-Sep-2024 - Italy's Research Council researchers Rosaria Ciriminna and Mario Pagliaro are present in the 2024 World ranking list of scientists in all fields of science published today by by Ioannidis and co-workers.

The ranking is based on the composite score c, a standardized citation metrics for career-long impact introduced in 2019.

The 2024 ranking is updated to end of citation year 2023. This work uses data from Scopus, the research database owned by Elsevier, a publisher.

Calculations were performed using all Scopus author profiles as of August 1, 2024.

Overall, the number of scientists present in the database (those publishing in all fields of science since year 1788) is 10,257,575. Out of this sample, the 2024 ranking includes 217,097 researchers along with their affiliation,  c-score, number of citations (self-citations excluded), h-index and other parameters. In full agreement with the outcomes of the study "How self-determination of scholars outclasses shrinking public research lab budgets, supporting scientific production: a case study and R&D management implications" co-authored by Mario Pagliaro and Mario Coccia, most CNR researchers included in the ranking - 396 in the career ranking, many of which retired - risultano in lista 396 ricercatori e ricercatrici- work in Labs located in southern Italy.
