CNR Scientists Celebrate Milestone

Rosaria Ciriminna and Mario Pagliaro publish 100th research paperPalermo, 5-Jun-2014 - Italy's Research Council scientists Rosaria Ciriminna and Mario Pagliaro have achieved their 100th publication of a scientific paper.

Co-authored with Lisboa's Technical University scientists Laura Ilharco and Alexandra Fidalgo and with Quebec-based SiliCycle's chemists Valerica Pandarus and François Béland, the publication, a research article entitled “Towards waste free organic synthesis via nanostructured hybrid silicas", appears in the 12/2014 issue of Nanoscale, a leading nanochemistry journal, that also granted its cover to the publication.

The CNR is pleased to announce the publication of the 100th article, an achievement that represents the efforts of a team which started its research activities in the fields of nanochemistry for sustainability in Palermo in year 2000 when almost no resources were available at the Institute of Chemistry and Natural Products just relocated at Palermo's new CNR Research Area.

Since then, the Laboratory has emerged as of Europe's primary research centres in the field of nano- and sustainable chemistry. Solar energy, too, is heavily investigated by Sicily's researchers who use sunlight as a reactant for highly selective chemical syntheses; for decontaminating polluted environments and as a source of energy to split water.

The MPL is grateful for the co-workers support of its mission as an innovator and redoubles its commitment to world-class science in chemical research.

Here’s to another 100.
