Khalifa University Science and Technology Qualifying PhD exam on solar chemistry held today

PhD Qualifying Exam of Habeebllah Oladipo, Khalifa University, 22-May-201822-May-2018 - Dr Mario Pagliaro took part today in the PhD Research Supervisory Committee of the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Degree Program of Khalifa University Science and Technology.

Part of the second part of his qualifying exam, PhD student Habeebllah Oladipo answered the questions of the Committee Research Proposal on photocatalytic hydrogen generation from hydrogen sulfide.

The Committee included also Dr Giovanni Palmisano and Dr. Khalid Al-Ali, Assistant Professors, Department of Chemical Engineering, Khalifa University of Science and Technology.

Research in photocatalytic hydrogen production from hydrogen sulfideis still in its infancy. The early research of the PhD student has shown promising results of a nitrogen-doped titania-graphene (N-TiO2-G) composite towards hydrogen generation.

The candidate also discussed the early efforts aimed at optimization of the main parameters including the operating conditions to be be used for a pilot-scale photoreactor design.

The abundance of H2S in coal mining, petroleum, oil and gas industries, as well as in geothermal plants is managed via the Clauss process which removes H2S, converting into water and elemental sulfur.

Conversion into hydrogen and sulfur, would make H2S removal economically much more attractive.

The newly-established Khalifa University of Science and Technology combines former Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research and The Petroleum Institute into one world-class, research-intensive institution, seamlessly integrating research and education to produce world leaders and critical thinkers in applied science and engineering.

Based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Khalifa University endeavors to be a leader among research intensive universities of the 21st century.
