Evaluator for Israel Science Foundation

Logo of Israel Science Foundation27-Mar-2017 - Mario Pagliaro has delivered today the evaluation report of an important research project in materials science to the Israel Science Foundation on the Individual Research Grants.

"Your review will play a major role in our decision making process and contribute to the advancement of scientific research in Israel", wrote officers of the ISF to Italy's Research Council scholar based in Sicily.

The aim of the ISF is to promote and support scientific research of high quality through allocation of grants in a large range of fields. Grants are awarded on the basis of scientific merit following a dual evaluation process - written peer reviews and subsequent discussions in scientific panels of the specific disciplines. The ISF is Israel's predominant source of competitive grants funding basic research. Its roughly $60 million annual budget funds more than 1,300 grants a year, providing 2/3 of all such funds.
Every year, thousands of expert reviewers from Israel, but mostly from abroad, are involved in peer-reviewing the scientific merit of the submitted proposals. The ISF awards grants in all fields of exact sciences, life sciences, humanities and social sciences to Israeli researchers at Israeli universities, other institutions of higher education, research and medical centers.

"The appointment of Israel's leading research agency  -- says Dr Pagliaro -- is another milestone towards the foundation, in Sicily, of an international research insitute recognised across the world's leading countries in science".

Working since long towards the foundation of the new Institute of solar energy and the bioeconomy of Italy's Research Council, Dr Pagliaro sits frequently on international PhD evaluation committees and regularly evaluates research projects for leading research agencies, including French Research Agency, Royal Society, Israel Science Foundation, Pazi Foundation, US-Israel Binational Science Foundation, Research Foundation - Flanders, Estonian Research Council, Poland National Science Centre, German Academic Exchange Service and ACS Petroleum Research Fund.
